First media test rides were often completed at race tracks and without exception, everyone was shocked that a 520 pound motorcycle could get around so quickly with such competence. The duolever front suspension featured built in anti-dive properties and completely removed front end stiction in one fell swoop which allowed surprising corner entry speeds and unusual great high speed stability. It was never intended to beat up current sportbikes, but it would surprise many when seen approaching in their mirrors. The k1200r was optioned with what makes bmw’s a bike above the rest. Their esa adjustable suspension was state of the art in 2006 and allowed not only the shock dampening to be adjusted on the fly, but the preload of the shock spring to be changed when the bike was parked and in neutral.
